SONGER STUDIO
POP ENSEMBLE
Since 2004, SongerStudio has been offering one of the most innovative and popular middle school music ensembles in the Twin Cities. The Garage Band has provided over 200 students an incredible experience of being in a rock band and performing in front of audiences while learning the skills and technique of being a rock star.

Throughout the years, this approach has been applied to other genres of music including country, bluegrass, hip hop and even Mariachi. And now this spring, another ensemble is starting:

“Middle Ground” Pop Ensemble.

The pop ensemble is an opportunity for students in grades 6-8 to learn about how current contemporary Top 40 music is created and performed. Students will get a chance to sing and perform live instruments such as piano, bass guitar and drum set just like Garage Band, but they’ll also learn the technology such as tracks, guides, loops, DAW, voice transformers, sample pads, Push and so much more. Through several rehearsals of learning technique and technology, these students will have the opportunity to perform for the public and show off their skills.

What songs will they be performing? For this inaugural performance, we’re looking at Camila Cabello’s “Havana”, Pink’s “What About Us” and Charlie Puth’s “One Call Away” as just a sample of what you will be hearing.

Where does the name “Middle Ground” come from? Well, first of all, it’s middle school students. And second, it’s learning the ground-level technique, technology and stage presence that is required to be a pop star in today’s world.

In addition to a spring performance, we are even looking at visiting a recording studio in the Twin Cities and learning about how this music produced.

Middle Ground Pop Ensemble is designed for students who already have experience singing, playing instruments or want to dive into the technology of creating tracks. There are no auditions, but it’s important to know that they should have at least two years of experience. If they don’t, we recommend private lessons, School of Rock or Music Technology as ways to get them ready to join this class in the future.

The first ever Pop Ensemble session meets on Fridays April 6-May 25 from 3:50-5 p.m.in the CMSW Band and Choir Rooms. Please register at www.ce4all.org. http://www.ce4all.orgshapeimage_3_link_0
