GUEST CONDUCTING IN EAU CLAIRE NOVEMBER 3
ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2018 ERIC WAS THE GUEST CONDUCTOR AT THE UW-EAU CLAIRE HIGH SCHOOL BAND FESTIVAL IN DOWNTOWN EAU CLIARE ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3. 

THE FESTIVAL WAS HELD AT THE BRAND NEW PABLO CENTER IN EAU CLIARE WHICH IS BEAUTIFUL NEW FACILITY WITH A CONCERT HALL THAT SEATS OVER 1,200, A BLACK BOX THEATER, A RECORDING STUDIO AND PLENTY OF REHEARSAL SPACE. 

THE FESTIVAL FEATURED THREE BANDS OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INCLUDING TWO 11-12 BANDS AND A 9-10 BAND WHICH IS THE ONE ERIC CONDUCTED. THE OTHER TWO BANDS WERE DIRECTED BY UW-EAU CLAIRE BAND DIRECTORS JOHN STEWART AND PHIL OSTRANDER. SECTIONALS WERE RUN BY UWEC STUDENTS AND MASTER CLASSES WERE GIVEN BY UWEC STUDIO FACULTY. THE STUDENTS WERE ALSO TREATED TO PERFORMANCES BY THE UWEC WIND SYMPHONY AND CONCERT BAND FEATURING A FACULTY WOODWIND QUARTET AND BRASS QUINTET AND A PIECE WRITTEN BY FORMER UWEC MUSIC THEORY PROFESSOR IVAR LUNDE. 

ON MONDAY, MAY 21, 2018 ERIC SONGER WAS ONE OF THREE GUEST CONDUCTORS AT THE KETTLE MORAINE DISTRICT BAND CONCERT AT KETTLE MORAINE HIGH SCHOOL IN WALES, WISCONSIN.  TYPICALLY, ONE GUEST CONDUCTOR IS BROUGHT IN, BUT THIS YEAR THREE CONDUCTORS WERE INVITED IN HONOR OF THE 50-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE HIGH SCHOOL.  

IN ADDITION TO ERIC, HIS MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND DIRECTOR, KEN LEMKE, AND FORMER KM BAND DIRECTOR CHARLENE GOODRICH ULICHNEY WERE ALSO GUEST CONDUCTING.  THE THREE TOOK TURNS CONDUCTING THE 5TH GRADE, MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL BANDS CONCLUDING WITH A MASS BAND PERFORMANCE OF “STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER”.

IT WAS ERIC’S SECOND TIME COMING BACK TO CONDUCT.  THE KETTLE MORAINE MUSIC PROGRAM IS ONE OF THE MOST HIGHLY RESPECTED PROGRAMS IN THE STATE.
